Sajjad Khan and his wife Falak both rubbished claims by their daughter-in-law that they mental and physically abused her and said they treated her like their own daughter.

Faryal Makhdoom, 25, had alleged that she was the victim of mental and physical abuse in a rant on social media and claimed her in-laws cropped her out of family pictures, hurled objects at her and even attempted to attack her because they had problems with her baring skin.

In their first interview since the dispute made headlines, Khan’s parents denied any wrong doing.

Sajjad Khan told GEO news:”Faryal was adopting a dress code which in the Islamic faith was not acceptable. I am a father to two daughters whom I have treated exactly the same way as I have treated Faryal.”

Sajjad said he did not say anything to Faryal, but instead asked his son to address the issue with his wife .

“All this started with the issue of dressing. We kept asking Amir to tell her not to adopt such a dress code. And even if she had to wear such dresses, please don’t post it on social media,” he said.

He also denied claims of physical abuse and violence towards Faryal calling them unfounded and pointed out if their was any kind of physical abuse then there must be a hospital record to back up the claim.

He went on to say he did not know why Faryal decided to make the “false accusations” but they always  “strived for reconciliation between Amir and Faryal,”

Also speaking to Geo News, Amir Khan’s mother Falak, who looked visibly upset, said she previously asked Faryal not to wear revealing clothes.

She said: “I asked her not to wear such dresses and to take the dupatta (scarf), but she never listened. After that, we asked Amir but he told us to convey this to Faryal’s mother because she does not listen to him either,”

“One day she will also complain that Amir Khan abuses her,”

Amir Khan also broke his silence over the accusations aimed at his family by his wife and brushed off the subject as ‘routine matters.’

“My wife said something, my sister said something else, these are routine matters,” said Amir Khan.
