Murder investigation launched after young man lost his life after being stabbed in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham late last night.
The man, named locally as Zakir Nawaz, 22, died after being attacked in Highfield Road just before 10pm.
Officers were called to Highfield Road, Alum Rock, around 9:30pm last night after reports of several men being involved in a fight.
Police and emergency services arrived at the scene to find a man had suffered a stab wound.
Zakir Nawaz was treated at the scene but paramedics could not save him and he was pronounced dead shortly after.
He leaves behind a wife and two young children, a boy aged two-years-old and a new born baby girl who is just ten days old.
The area was sealed off while detectives carry out a full investigation into what happened.
A 25-year-old man was arrested this morning on suspicion of murder and will be questioned later today.
Tributes have been paid by friends on social media to Zakir who say he ‘made you laugh every time’ and was ‘much loved in the local community.’
Detective Inspector Shaun Egan, from Force CID, said: “The attack happened at a time when we know there would have been a number of people in the area and we need to speak to anyone who saw what happened.”
