Her brother had sent her threats and ordered her to stop posting photos and videos of herself on Facebook but after she ignored his requests, he strangled her to death.

A senior police official in Multan said: “Qandeel Baloch has been killed, she was strangled to death by her brother, apparently it was an incident of honour killing,”

Qandeel had been staying in her family home in Multan since visiting them for Eid celebrations and also because her father was ill.

Police also said there are no other marks on her body to point to an assault other then marks on her neck.

Forensic experts are examining the corpse and a post mortem is due to be held.

Earlier reports from TV channels reported that Qandeel was shot to death but police have now confirmed she was in fact strangled by her brother which was the cause of death.

Her brother, Waseem, had gone to visit the family home during the night to confront his sister about her shaming the family on social media. He then waited for her to go sleep and then strangled her to death and has now gone into hiding.

Baloch became famous through self promotion on social media and gained a huge following in Pakistan and around the world.

She had previously asked the senior superintendent of Islamabad to provide her with security after death threats made to her after she posted a video with Mufti Abdul Qavi in a hotel room with her. Mufti Qavi was later sacked from his post at the Ruet-e-Hilal committee

In one of her most recent interviews she said “Nothing is good in this society. This patriarchal society is bad,”
